Botany Columbarium

As time goes on, there are more and more options available where cremation is concerned. One thing that has increased in popularity has been the use of the columbarium at the cemetery. A columbarium is essentially an outdoor mausoleum unit. You purchase a 12 x 12 niche within the columbarium, where up to two sets of cremated remains can be laid to rest. Prices often range, depending on how high up you are within the columbarium.

The municipality had initially installed a number of them in the Municipal Cemeteries including Maple Leaf in Chatham, Evergreen in Blenheim and Greenwood in Ridgetown (Ridgetown’s cemetery board eventually the cemetery back from the Municipality). More recently, volunteer boards have been installing them as well. It is a way by which the cemeteries can continue to make the most of the land they have, while offering a dignified space for our loved ones.

Very recently, Botany Cemetery, at Botany Line and Howard Road, has installed their own columbarium. Prices for a two urn niche range from $1000 to $1500. If anyone wished to purchase a niche, you are welcome to phone for me at the Funeral Home and I would be happy to put you in touch with the proper people.
