Obituary of James Riddell

Riddell, James (Jim) A resident of Chatham, Jim Riddell passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the age of 90. Born in Chatham, Jim was the son of the late Arthur and Victoria (nee Rice) Riddell. Beloved husband of 67 years to Nola (nee Murphy) and devoted father of Delynn and son-in-law Roger. Predeceased by his siblings, George Riddell, Bill Riddell, Gene Riddell, Jack Riddell, Blanche Kirby, Edna Mancell & Lois Mielke. Jim and Nola grew up in Fletcher and have known each other since youngsters. He had some great stories and adventures that he got up to living in the country. After high school, Jim had a variety of jobs before landing his longtime career as a Mail Contractor for the Post Office which he did for 35 years. He ran a very successful business and was proud when his employee and friend, Randy carried on the tradition. Jim had a passion for life, and was such a big personality. He always seemed to have a crowd of friends around him having a great time, listening to the stories and jokes that he never was without. This played out at any gathering which in his case turned out to be the golf course, the legion, the pool hall and anywhere one played cards. Nola and Delynn would like to thank the nursing and support staff teams from VON and Bayshore that assisted dad over the past few months with compassion. A special thank you to Dr Ricketts who always made time for Jim and Kerri Wood who came into the home for the past couple of years providing healthcare. She came in as a nurse and left as a close friend of the family. Nola referred to her as their angel. In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no service however next time you raise your glass, think of him and how he touched your life. We are quite sure that he is on the first tee, ready to wager a bet with friends that have passed before. "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday... unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear" You will be missed more than you know by all that loved you.
